SSC CHSL 2017 Exam Pattern

The SSC CHSL  Examination will be conducted in Three  tiers as indicated below:

  • Tier -I — Computer Based Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  • Tier -II — Descriptive Paper(Paper Pen Mode)
  • Tier -III–Typing Test/Skill Test Examination(Computer Based)

Tier I is Computer Based Written Examination consists of Objective Type Multiple choice questions only. Tier II exam will be based on Paper pen mode exam. Tier III is Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test.

TIER – I Exam Pattern

Tier 1 exam is a first stage exam for those who are submitted their application form successfully  for SSC CHSL are eligible for Tier I. The scheme of Tier 1 exam is followed:

  • It will be conduct through only  online mode means computer based mode.
  • No. of question  will be 100.
  • There will be four sections in paper each section has 25 no. of questions.
  • Time duration is 75 minutes.
  • Each question will be of 2 marks.
  • There will be  Negative marking of 25% or 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

TIER – II Exam Pattern

Tier II Exam is Descriptive Paper (Paper Pen Mode) Exam. It tests your writing skills. The scheme of Tier II exam is followed: In Tier II  The SSC is added a descriptive paper. This paper is in Hindi or English to judge the writing skills of candidates. Writing skills is must required to do a govt. jobs in any department.

  • This descriptive paper is contain an essay of around 200-250 words.
  • An Application/ Letter writing of around 150-200 words.
  • It is written  in only Hindi or English. No another language can be chosen to write in any language.
  • Duration is one hours.
  • Total marks  consists of this paper is 100.
  • Whole paper is divided in only Two parts.
  • One part is essay writing and second part is application/ Letter writing.
  • The minimum qualifying marks for this paper is 33% of paper.
  • This paper is based on 12th class level.

TIER – III Exam Pattern

Tier-III Examination is the Skill Test/Typing Test which would be of only a qualifying nature. Only those candidates, who secured at least the minimum qualifying marks in the Computer based written examination (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II), as may be fixed by the Commission , only will be called for skill test. The skill test will be held at the Commission’s Regional Offices or other centers as may be decided by the Commission. The final merit of the successful candidates would be determined on the basis of total score obtained by them in Tier-I and Tier-II.

Skill test for Data Entry Operator

Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (eight thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer. The Data Entry Speed Skill Test is only qualifying nature. Candidates allowed to take this test only on Computer. Only those candidates who secured at least the minimum qualifying marks in the Computer based Written Examination (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II), that is  fixed by the Commission, will be called for Skill Test. The skill test will be conduct at the Commission’s Regional Offices or other centers as may be decided by the Commission. It will be notify to candidates about center at official website www.ssc.nic.in.

Typing Test for Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant LDCs and Court Clerks

Typing Test will be conducted for only  those candidates who qualify in the Computer based Written Examination (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II). This Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi that is  to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form. Typing Test will be of qualifying in nature. Only those candidates who secured at least the minimum qualifying marks in the Computer based Written Examination (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II), that is  fixed by the Commission , will be called for Typing Test. The Commission also have rights to  fix the minimum qualifying marks in each part  of the written examination.

The Topic of precise  application/ Letter writing etc. are mainly comes from Current Events related.The topic of essay writing is mainly related to current issues of India and may be from Science subject or any other subjects.

Tier-III  Examination is  the Skill Test/Typing Test which would be of only a qualifying nature. Only those candidates, who secured at least the minimum qualifying marks in the Computer based written examination (Tier-I) and Descriptive Paper (Tier-II), as may be fixed by the Commission , only will be called for skill test. The skill test will be held at the Commission’s Regional Offices or other centers as may be decided by the Commission.
