The SSC CGL Examination will be conducted in Four Tiers as indicated below:
Tier-1 — Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
Tier-2 — Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
Tier-3 — Descriptive Paper( Paper Pen Mode)
Tier-4— Computer Proficiency Test/ Skill Test (wherever applicable)/Document Verification

TIER – I Exam Pattern
CGL Tier 1 exam is a preliminary exam and those who are submitted their application form successfully for SSC CGL 2017 are eligible for preliminary exam or Tier 1. The scheme of Tier 1 exam is followed:
- It will be conduct through online mode means computer based mode.
- No. of question will be 100.
- There will be four sections in paper each section has 25 no. of questions.
- Time duration is 60 minutes.
- Each question will be 2 marks.
- There will be Negative marking of 25% or 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.

TIER – II Exam Pattern
Tier 2 Exam is mains exam or second stage exam. Only those who are qualified SSC CGL Tier 1 exam are eligible for CGL Tier 2 exam. The scheme of Tier 2 exam is followed:
- It will be also conduct through online mode means computer based mode.
- Tier 2 exam consists three papers.
- Paper 1 is Quantitative abilities.
- Paper 2 is English Language and Comprehension.
- Paper 3 is Statistics.
- Paper 4 is General Studies (Finance and Economics).

Duration & Timings for General candidates
Final Merit:– The Final Merit will be prepared on overall performance in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. But the candidate will also need to qualify Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 separately. There will be no sectional cut-off. The Document Verification will also be conducted.
NOTE: Paper I and Paper II is compulsory for all candidates who have qualified for CGL Tier 2. Paper III will be only for who are applied for the post of Junior Statistical Officer(JSO). Paper IV will be only for who are applied for the post of Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer.
